NAMI Provider Education Seminar Offered at Christus St. Vincent
We are pleased to announce that on Saturday morning, June 30, we were finally able to offer our Provider Education program at the new Vernick Conference Room at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center. A huge thank you to our teaching team: Cameron Haight, John Harnisch and Tom Steward. Christus was able to award 4 CME’s for this program. We had representatives from not only Christus, but from PMS Santa Fe Community Guidance Center, Tierra Nueva Counseling, YMCA, a deacon, and a student who just received her master’s degree in social work. Also want to acknowledge the efforts of Betty Sisneros Shover, NAMI Santa Fe President, Jesse Cirolia, Manager of Christus Community Health, and Brenda Stewart, Director of Christus Trauma and Medical Education.
If you are an organization who is interested in hosting our program, please call Betty Sisneros Shover at 505-395-6204 and leave a message.
What is Provider Education?
The Provider Education program makes information available to providers that they do not receive in their professional training: what it is like to live with mental illness every day of your life. The Program gives providers the opportunity to develop an insight into what individuals and their families living with mental illness struggle with on a daily basis, expands compassion for the daily realities of this heroic struggle, and prepares staff members to practice a collaborative Consumer/Provider/Family Member team model of care. NAMI believes that once providers develop this essential insight, they will view individuals with mental illness and their families as partners in the treatment process; and the result will be improved outcomes for everyone.
