NM Attorney General Conducts Review of Police Body Camera Use

Dan Nickelson Reports:

In 2018 the General Assembly instructed the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General to conduct a review of issues surrounding the use/non-use of police body cameras.

A task force was convened, consisting with a wide variety of stakeholders, including NAMI.  The task force has just completed its work, found the subject matter to be highly complicated, and recommended further study.

The specific subjects recommended for further study are: (1) what constitutes a law enforcement “behavioral health” that might require redaction in the case of an information request; (2) who decides? and (3) whether such labeling might be too broadly interpreted and become a means to restrict public accountability.
